Radio to Social Media

Still it seems more common to social media gadgets associated with brands on their digital platforms or on a homepage. Seeing social media promoted so prominently on a traditional media platform is smart and exciting.

About a month ago as I was watching TV, more than likely a Bravo Housewives marathon of some sort, and noticed something in a Macy’s commercial that I hadn’t seen before. In the closing shot were two prominently displayed logos drawing attention to the company’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

I’m not exactly sure when this creative started running but it was the first time I noticed it and I was impressed. The mention of social media of course is nothing new, in fact it is surprising not to see those elements. Still it seems more common to social media gadgets associated with brands on their digital platforms or on a homepage. Seeing social media promoted so prominently on a traditional media platform is smart and exciting.

Radio can utilize social media the same way television does. A branding campaign can be enhanced by radio creative asking the listener to follow the brand on Twitter or “like” them on Facebook. A direct response campaign can use a social media interaction as its measured call to action. Integrating different forms of media can only expand and increase the reach of the product. Think for a second about the advantages of radio; it drives traffic, it reaches loyal listeners, it introduces a concept. Now combine that with social media advantages; direct interaction with consumers and user generated buzz around products and services.

The scene is set for compelling campaigns all with one radio budget!
